This paper leaf craft is simple, budget-friendly, and suitable for all skill levels. With just a few recyclable paper bags, some rubber bands, and basic tools, you can make elegant leaves that look far more expensive than they cost. The whole project can be completed for less than a dollar if you already have scissors and a pencil on hand.

Supplies
- Rubber bands
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Recyclable paper bag(s)
Instructions
Step 1: Cut along one vertical edge of the paper bag and trim off the bottom portion so the bag lays flat.
Step 2: Set aside the removed bottom piece; you won’t need it for the leaf.
Step 3: Cut along one of the bag’s creases to split it into two equal sheets.
Step 4: Remove the handles so they don’t interfere with folding.
Step 5: Take one sheet and fold it in half vertically, aligning the edges precisely.
Step 6: Using a pencil, draw two lines from the top and bottom toward the folded edge so they meet at the fold’s center, creating a triangular point. This marks the leaf shape.
Step 7: Cut along your pencil lines to form the basic leaf outline while the sheet is still folded.
Step 8: Unfold the cut piece and refine the edges if needed so the leaf looks even and balanced.
Step 9: Create texture and dimension by folding narrow accordion folds along the length of the leaf, then secure one end with a rubber band, wrapping tightly so the folds hold.
That’s all it takes. Once released and gently fanned, the folded paper leaf opens into a soft, natural shape that’s surprisingly elegant.
